Recording Audio on Windows & Mac

There are many ways to record an audio file using free software. You can use your iPhone or Android device, or you can use a handheld voice recorder such as the Zoom h2n. Alternately, you can use a computer running either Windows 10 or Mac OS X to record your voice as outlined below:

For Windows 10:

  • Use the built-in Voice Recorder to create an .M4A file:
  • Start > type in “Voice Recorder”
  • Click on the Voice Recorded app
  • Click on the microphone icon to begin recording
  • Click the Stop button to stop the recording

For Mac OS X:

  • Use the QuickTime Player to record an .M4A file:
  • Finder > Applications > QuickTime Player
  • File > New Audio Recording
  • Click the play button to start recording
  • Click the stop button to stop

Converting from .M4A to .MP3

File Formats:

At present, Flourish only takes .MP3 files as audio file uploads. If the audio file you recorded is in a different format, you will need to convert it to .MP3 before uploading. There are a number of ways to do that. Here are a few that you can try:
